RPCC Signs “Twinning” Agreement
with Carl Albert State College
SORRENTO, La. – River Parishes Community College
in Sorrento has gained a partner in its effort to provide higher education
to the river parishes. Officials at River Parishes Community College
on Thursday, Sept. 14, signed a Sister Institution Educational Endeavor
Agreement with Carl Albert State College, a community college in Poteau,
Okla. The “twinning” agreement was signed in Sorrento during
a campus visit by Carl Albert State College President, Dr. Joe E. White.
Both schools entered into the agreement so that each can exchange ideas
and learn best practices from each other, in order to enhance the quality
of education offered in both states.
“I am excited that we have been able to connect with Carl Albert
State College,” said River Parishes Community College Chancellor
Joe Ben Welch. “They have been in business for a number of years,
so it will be good for our faculty and staff to exchange ideas and best
practices with their faculty and staff. I hope to foster this relationship
because it will be mutually beneficial to all involved. This twinning
will certainly enhance the quality of both schools.”
Under the “twinning” agreement, each campus will send representatives
to visit the other campus in order to learn educational and administrative
practices which can benefit both schools. In the future, students will
be exchanged by each college, in order to educate students on the culture
and diversity at the sister institutions. Also, representatives at each
school will work together to promote procedures and services between
the service areas of each institution.
During White’s visit to the River Parishes campus, he met with
Chancellor Welch, Ascension Parish Pres. Ronnie Hughes, Sorrento Mayor
Brenda Melancon, Donaldsonville Mayor Leroy Sullivan, and Ascension
Parish School Superintendent Donald Songy. White was given a campus
tour and later met with River Parishes Community College Foundation
Chairman Frank Marino. After a briefing on the educational and administrative
processes of River Parishes Community College by Executive Vice-Chancellor
Dr. Bill Martin, White attended a luncheon held by the Ascension area
chambers of commerce at Bernardo’s restaurant in Donaldsonville.
“Dr. White’s visit went quite well, I think he was impressed
by our area and the way we do business,” said Welch. “I
look forward to visiting his school and acquiring whatever knowledge
he and his staff have to offer.”
White said, “They (River Parishes Community College) are a new
college with new ideas. As the old school on the block, experiencing
the birthing of a college will be a rejuvenating experience.”
