RPCC Completes United Way Campaign
SORRENTO, La. – Faculty, staff and students at River Parishes
Community College raised over $1,100 last semester as part of the
school’s annual United Way campaign. The money raised by the
campaign was a school record, according to campaign chairman Clen
Burton. Burton is chief business officer at River Parishes Community
College.
“Once again, I find myself beaming with pride at the people
of this fine institution,” Chancellor Joe Ben Welch said. “I
always knew that the employees and students were generous, but this
campaign puts that generosity into action.”
As with many United Way campaigns, full-time River Parishes Community
College employees were given the opportunity to contribute to the
charity by opting for payroll deductions. Over 30 employees chose
this method of giving; almost 80 percent.
In an effort to involve the student body, organizers held a pie-throwing
contest in November. River Parishes students were able to throw cream
pies – for a fee, of course – at some of their favorite
professors or staff members. Hot chocolate was served to all United
Way contributors at the event.
“For an organization with less than 50 full-time employees,
I believe we have done exceptionally well,” said Burton. “The
RPCC community really pulled together to make the campaign a success.
Many worthy causes will benefit because of the generosity of our people.”
River Parishes Community College is a two-year learning institution,
