Former State Sen. Louis Lambert Elected Head of RPCC Foundation Board

SORRENTO, La. – Members of the River Parishes Community College Foundation Board elected former state Sen. Louis Lambert, R-Prairieville, chairman of the Foundation Board of Directors at their quarterly meeting in December. Lambert was also chairman in 2000 and 2001. He will take on his new duties beginning with the upcoming March 12 meeting.

“Louis has always been an unwavering supporter of RPCC,” said Chancellor Joe Ben Welch. “He played a major role in creating RPCC, and has been involved with this college since its inception. It’s only natural that he be at the forefront of efforts to promote the school through fundraising and scholarship distribution.”

Frank Marino of Baton Rouge is the outgoing president. Marino served two consecutive terms in 2005 and 2006, and remains a member of the board.

The River Parishes Community College Foundation, Inc. was founded to provide financial assistance to the college through gifts, grants and other revenue. The Foundation was organized in 2000 as a not-for-profit corporation for the purpose of supporting the goals and objectives of the college. The Foundation’s chief objectives include: promoting the educational and cultural welfare of the River Parishes Community College, and its facilities; articulating the aims, objectives and needs of the school to the public; and soliciting and accepting gifts, grants, and funds of all kinds, including property, for the purpose of providing scholarships, activities in research, teaching or training, or other designated benefits for the school and its faculty and students. Through contributions to the Foundation, local area citizens can invest in the future of the River Parishes. Contributions can be made in several categories, Professorships, Scholarships, Enhancements, and Endowments. The Foundation is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, therefore contributions are tax-deductible.

In addition to Lambert, Bill McCord of Garyville is Vice-Chairman, Dub Noel of Gonzales is Treasurer and Sharon Kell of LaPlace is the organization’s elected secretary. Other members of the Foundation Board include Leonard Alcorn of Paincourtville, Paul Aucoin of Vacherie, Eva Bourgeois of St. Amant, Robert Burgess, of Gonzales, Dwight Braud of Baton Rouge, Charles Freeburgh of Prairieville, Louis Joseph of Edgard, Louis “Boo” LeBlanc of Donaldsonville, Frank J. Marino of Baton Rouge, Gary Miller of Convent, Shelby J. Robert of Gonzales and Jeff Smith of Gonzales.
